Rotiboy craze
Ever encounter a strong waft of coffee in the MRT without seeing any packets of coffee or seen people munching brown buns in brown paper bags along the streets? If you don't know what I am talking about still, you must either be someone who doesn't fall prey to coffee or someone who doesn't have time to walk the streets.
There isn't a unique name to this bun. It is simply a coffee flavoured bun with salty butter fillings and doesn't look as good as it taste. The 3 main branches that sell it in Singapore are Rotiboy (the pioneer of such buns), Paparoti and Rotimum. I don't know if they are somehow linked but their names sure sound interesting.
A picture tells a thousand words.
I've tried all 3 branches and although being the same bun, they do have significant variations. Personally, on taste per se, I will rate Boy the highest, followed by Papa, then Mum. Boy, is less sweet than the rest, more deeply fried and being the first of its kind, it should taste nicer. However, good things have to compromise on other aspects. Boy, it not particularly healthy. Not only is it the oiliest among the three, its butter is the saltiest. Probably why it tastes better; more salt more oil = more pleasing.

Apparently, I like these coffee buns and I like coffee even more. But like all good things, they should be consumed in moderation. In fact, I would like to warn you people before you go out and grab a dozen buns back home. These funs are extremely heaty and can cause sore throats, headaches and the sort. I once ate 4 in a day and came down with headache. In this kind of hot weather especially, please do not eat more than 2 coffee buns per day. Moreover, eating too much of any good stuff will make you sick of it. So respect your body and your appetitite. Eat them in moderation!
